“Ring” Magazine “Should have been Holm not Rousey”

When Ronda Rousey graced the cover of Ring Magazine last month, the boxing community went into an uproar about the cover. Many critics surfaced responding to Ring’s choice of cover, wondering why the MMA mega star was on the popular magazine. One of the more vocal critics was Floyd “Money” Mayweather who took to verbal jabs at owner Oscar De La Hoya for the cover.

Boxing promoter Lou DiBella was the latest to get his jabs in Saturday night following an event headlined by Daniel Jacobs and Peter Quillin at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. DiBella bashed the magazine, not only for putting Rousey on the cover, but for not putting a legitimate women’s boxing champion with 16 title defenses and 3 of those were in different weight classes. CNG’s Joseph Stazewski gets the quotes:
“If I was Ring Magazine, maybe I would have put Holly Holm on the cover before she won,” DiBella said at the post-fight press conference, continuing, “And talked about her story and maybe why she had a chance and what she accomplished in boxing that they didn’t pay attention to for her whole career.”

Rousey the former bantamweight champion fighting out of Santa Monica, CA was offered by De La Hoya a chance to be promoted through Golden Boy if the UFC star ever wanted to try her hand in the ring.

“Holly Holm, if you ever watched the tapes of her fights, that girl could fight — seriously box,” DiBella said. “You saw a little bit if you saw her kick the sh*t out of Rousey in whatever the length of that fight was. Actually watch her in a boxing match and she was a very skilled lady.”

With not putting the champion Holly Holm on the cover of Ring Magazine before UFC 193 was a huge missed opportunity giving her boxing credentials. With a rematch between Holm vs Rousey on the horizon, what’s your take on Rousey’s cover over Holm?
