Jessica ‘Evil’ Eye’s Ready To Bounce Back: ‘I Don’t Like Crying And I Don’t Like Losing’
UFC bantamweight fighter Jessica ‘Evil’ Eye went into her fight with Miesha Tate following a win over Leslie Smith and hoped that a win over ‘Cupcake’ would propel her into a title shot against Ronda Rousey.
Unfortunately that didn’t happen. She ended up losing to Tate via unanimous decision, after getting dropped and controlled for most of the fight.
Eye says she immediately started asking for another fight because she likes to be active and thinks that the long layoff hurt her performance against Tate. Eye talked to MMAJunkie Radio about what she thinks went wrong in the fight with Tate:
“I did this really arrogant thing and I smiled at her and dropped my hands, and that’s when she lunged in and threw the hardest shot she’s ever going to throw in her life. But perfect, right on the money. Good for her. She hit the prize.
“It didn’t even rock me. I never even blinked. I remember seeing her the whole time. I remember thinking, ‘Oh, sh-t, I’m on the ground.’”
Eye also said she feels like most of the female fighters wouldn’t be able to recover from a hit like that and come back like she did. She’s looking to get the taste of the loss out of her mouth with a win over Julianna Pena at this weekends UFC 192.
“I don’t think most females can take hits like I did and come back. I don’t like crying, I don’t like losing, and I want to get the taste out of my mouth, and the best thing I can think to do is to get back to it.
“(Pena has) got a lot of fighting spirit, and that’s where I think we match up well.”
