Johny Hendricks Explains Weight Cut Issue: ‘My Body Just Started To Shut Down’

By BJPENN.COM News - October 2, 2015

Former UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks will not be fighting on Saturday in UFC 192’s co-main event. The Hendricks vs. Tyron Woodley fight was pulled from the card after Hendricks was rushed to the emergency room with an intestine blockage and kidney stone from trying to cut weight.

The news was broke by UFC president Dana White early Friday morning, via Twitter.

The MMA community reacted to the news in all kinds of ways, from harsh words for Hendricks to simply being disappointed.

Since the news came out, Hendricks has talked to MMAFighting about what exactly went wrong and even admitted that a move up to middleweight might be a necessity at this point.

Here’s what he said:

“The weight was coming off fine and then yesterday my body just started to shut down. Then yesterday my body just started to shut down. When it hit that point, I tried to push through it, and well, it didn’t go well because then I had to go to the ER.”

“The body is hurting bad and sore from it. The body hasn’t recovered from it yet, but maybe it will tomorrow.”

“I think I have to lose more fat or move up. We might move up to 185, but I want to get home and start testing myself on body fat and try to work it down and see if that’s going to work in a mini weight cut. Then that’s when I can really focus on what’s next. If it doesn’t go go good, then it’s 185 for sure. I still enjoy fighting, just not the weight cut.”
