Jorge Masvidal in poker tourney finals, playing for six-figure prize
Jorge Masvidal (25-8 MMA, 2-1 UFC) will scrap Pat Healy (31-17 MMA, 0-3 UFC) later this month at the ‘UFC on FOX 11’ event in Orlando, but today he is battling in the finals of a World Poker Tour event which includes $500,000 in payouts.
The UFC lightweight recently spoke to MMAJunkie about his current situation in the “Deep Stack No-Limit Hold’em” tournament:
“First place would be, like, $200,000 or $180,000, something like that. I’m going into the final day with a decent amount of chips,” he said. “Hopefully, I can do something nice. I’ve got about $160,000 in chips. The average chip stack was $90,000 on the board, so I’m doing alright.”
The former Strikeforce title challenger suffered his first UFC defeat in November, when he dropped a decision to Russian standout Rustam Khabilov. Prior to that, Mazvidal had gone 2-0 under the Zuffa-banner, scoring wins over Michael Chiesa and Tim Means.
Best of luck to Jorge on the tables this afternoon, hopefully he can earn a solid bonus for his efforts.
