Jose Aldo backs off controversial IV-ban comments

UFC featherweight Jose Aldo was thought to be one of the most prolific fighters on the roster to speak out against USADA’s controversial plan to ban IV-bags as a method of rehydration after weigh-ins, but the champion has since changed his stance.

Aldo made headlines earlier in July when he revealed that he was going to continue to use IV-bags when rehydrating after weigh ins, going as far to daring the USADA to catch him.

“Only if they put security guard with me 24 hours a day. I don’t care,” Aldo said during a press conference in Brazil. “That’s what’s going to happen. I will do it anyway or someone else will do it for me. I will go to a friends house, to a different hotel room. I don’t f*****g care about them. They won’t take me out of the fight anyway. They can’t take me from the fight. It’s not doping. They will say they will test me. How are they going to get IV rehydration from my urine, brother? Only if they got new techniques. They are ninjas. They are f*****g stupid.”

Just over one month later, however, Aldo claimed that his statement on the matter was lost in translation and he will follow the rules of USADA and UFC.

“Sometimes I say something to the journalists in Brazil, and the moment the guys translate that, my interview is almost totally wrong. Everybody knows if you have the rules, you need to follow the rules and do exactly what you need to do.”

Jose Aldo is set to unify his championship with Conor McGregor’s interim featherweight strap at “UFC 194” in Las Vegas, Nevada. The card is set to take place on December 12, 2015 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
