Jose Aldo vs. Conor McGregor set for December 12 in Las Vegas
UFC Featherweight Champions Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor are set to unify their championships in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 12, 2015, reports Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports.
The bout is set to take place in the MGM Grand Garden Arena and will be the second time these two were scheduled to square off. Aldo was originally supposed to defend his UFC Featherweight Championship against McGregor at “UFC 189”, but was forced to pull out of the fight due to a rib injury.
Instead, Chad Mendes stepped in to face McGregor on short notice for the UFC interim Featherweight Championship. McGregor worked the body of Mendes early and often, but had nothing to offer when it came to takedown defense. Mendes took a risk in the second round and leapt for a mounted guillotine which allowed McGregor to wriggle back to his feet. From that point on, the body shots already took their toll on Mendes and heavy fatigue set in.
McGregor backed Mendes up against the fence and ultimately won the fight by technical knockout, securing his spot on the top of the featherweight division alongside Aldo.
