Joseph Benavidez Still Haunted By KO From Demetrious Johnson
Joseph Benavidez may be one of the top ranked flyweights in the world, but that hasn’t stopped him from not being able to forget what happened when he faced the champion Demetrious Johnson last year.
Benavidez was the man many picked to beat Johnson, but was stopped in his tracks early in the first round after being KO’d.
Now, with a fight against Chris Cariaso coming up this Saturday, Demetrious Johnson’s place in the spotlight is now more prevalent than ever, a constant reminder of their fight in December.
He spoke with MMAJunkie about the bout.
“I’ll just be sitting there, (whistling), and like for some reason, I’ll think about it and I’ll just cuss or I’ll just yell sometimes. I’m like a totally happy moment listening to music, and I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, f-ck.’”
“That’s embarrassing — that’s all there really is to it. Like, I know how good I am, and I might be the only person in the world that thought I could win that night, but I knew I was the better fighter. (The knockout) disrupted it, but I just knew I was the better fighter that night. That’s why that fight is really hard for me, too, because I didn’t even get to fight and show how good I was that night.”
