Joseph Duffy vs. Dustin Poirier set to headline UFC Fight Night 77 in Dublin
A key lightweight bout between rising contenders Joseph Duffy and Dustin Poirier will headline October’s UFC Fight Night 77 event in Dublin.
Joseph Duffy (14-1 MMA) will have an opportunity to fight in front of his local fans when he locks horns with Dustin Poirier in Ireland. “Irish Joe” was most recently seen in action earlier this month at ‘UFC Fight Night 72’ in Glasgow, where he earned a first-round submission victory over Ivan Jorge.
Prior to that, the 27-year-old Irishman was coming off a first-round knockout victory over Jake Lindsey at UFC 185 in his promotional debut. Duffy is well known for being the last man to defeat current UFC interim featherweight champion Conor McGregor, who he submitted in 38 seconds at a Cage Warriors event in November of 2010.
Meanwhile, Dustin Poirier will be looking to extend his current win streak to three in a row when he battles Duffy in Dublin. “The Diamond” is coming off back-to-back first-round knockout victories, which he earned over Carlos Diego Ferreira and Yancy Medeiros respectively.
Dustin Poirier has gone 5-1 in his past six fights, with his lone loss in that time coming to the aforementioned Conor McGregor, which prompted his move up to lightweight.
UFC Fight Night 77 takes place October 24 live from 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland. The entire event is expected to air on UFC Fight Pass.
