Kid Yamamoto vs. Ivan Menjivar slated for UFC 165 in Toronto

By Chris Taylor - June 20, 2013

Late last night, Montreal’s Nancy Audet reported that a bantamweight bout between Ivan Menjivar (25-10 MMA, 4-3 UFC) and Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto (18-6 MMA, 0-3 UFC) is being targeted for September’s UFC 165 event. UFC officials have yet to confirm the booking.

The Tristar Gym product, Menjivar, will be looking to bounce back in to the win column when he takes on Yamamoto this fall. In his most recent octagon appearance, Ivan was submitted by former WEC champ Urijiah Faber at UFC 157. Prior to that, Menjivar had gone 4-1 under the UFC banner, scoring victories over John Albert, Nick Pace and Azamat Gashimov respectively.

Meanwhile, Yamamoto will likely be fighting for his job when he takes on Menjivar in Toronto. The DREAM veteran and former K-1 HERO’S tournament winner, “Kid”, has gone 0-3 since joining the UFC in 2011. The 36 year-old Japanese fighter last saw action at UFC 144, where he was submitted by Vaughan Lee.

UFC 165 takes place September 21 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The event is headlined by a light heavyweight title fight between champion Jon Jones and top contender Alexander Gustaffson.
