Las Vegas Could Host Chris Weidman vs. Vitor Belfort in May

Chris Weidman will make his second UFC Middleweight Championship defense against Vitor Belfort, and details about the bout are already starting to emerge.

It seems that UFC CEO and co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta is entertaining the idea of hosting the fights in Las Vegas in May or July. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto shared a text message from Lorenzo Fertitta stating such.

Chris Weidman came out of 2013 as one of the most dominant fighters to enter the octagon. Despite being labeled the underdog twice in a row, Chris Weidman shut the naysayers up after he put on dominant performances against UFC legend Anderson Silva. His second defense of the UFC Middleweight Championship will not be an easy one as Vitor Belfort has been on an absolute tear as of late.

Ignoring the controversy behind his TRT-usage, it is undeniable that Vitor Belfort has shown improved technique since his loss to Anderson Silva at UFC 126. Belfort has earned three straight knockout of the night bonuses after putting Dan Henderson, Luke Rockhold and Michael Bisping to sleep in succession.

Vitor Belfort has not fought in America since 2011 at UFC 133 where he defeated Yoshihiro Akiyama in impressive fashion. Since then, there has been speculation that Belfort has been avoiding fighting in America so he can continue his TRT usage without question. Belfort denied these rumors by stating that he could fight anywhere without running into trouble.
