Lesnar: ‘UFC and WWE Are The Same Racket, WWE’s Just Better At It’
Former UFC heavyweight champion and current WWE star Brock Lesnar recently appeared on ESPN and discussed the differences and similarities between pro wrestling and the UFC.
Along with saying that WWE’s Vince McMahon is a better promoter than Dana White, Lesnar also pointed out that they’re both basically attempting to sell the same product.
“Of course, Dana, it’s fake, everybody knows that, but you’re promoting the same thing we’re promoting. Dana White is promoting fights; we’re promoting fights. It just so happens that we get a little more longevity out of our fights and out of our fighters because of the circumstances.”
“It is a staged arena. Everybody knows that. Dana, probably in his defense, is promoting fighting, but it’s the same thing. He’s trying to sell pay-per-views. He’s trying to sell money fights. It’s the same racket.”
Do you think it’s as similar as Lesnar says it is or should the two be seen as completely different entities?
Lesnar has competed in both organizations so maybe his thoughts should carry some weight with them. After all, both are considered entertainment. Sports entertainment to be exact. Yes, the results and skills and actual fighting are real in MMA and in WWE they’re scripted, with the winner already planned ahead and of course the character portrayals are all created and acted out by the wrestlers, but at the end of the day fans of each are tuning in to be entertained by combat and violence.
