Rory MacDonald proved to be championship material when he stepped into the octagon with Robbie Lawler at “UFC 189”. He may have succumbed to strikes in the fifth and final round, but if he could weather four more minutes of punishment he would have been on his way to a unanimous decision victory.

While both fighters saw a fair amount of offense throughout the first four rounds, it was MacDonald who was controlling where the action went and dictating the pace of the fight. Lawler landed brilliant counter shots, but MacDonald backed Lawler up against the fence several times and it looked like they were moments away from a stoppage. MMA Fighting obtained the following scorecard, which shows MacDonald was on his way to a decision win:

Do you think MacDonald would have won the fight if he made it to the final horn, or would the last round have been a 10-8 the way it was going? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
