Machida Explains Why He Wanted a Quick Turnaround After Rockhold Loss
Lyoto Machida’s last outing in the octagon was one he would like to forget. UFC on FOX broadcasted Luke Rockhold’s most dominant fight to date when he defeated “The Dragon” in only one round. Machida knew he would need to go right back into training and signed a fight just weeks after his loss.
Machida is set to face Yoel Romero later this month on June 27th. “I like to be busy, especially after I lost against Luke Rockhold,” Machida said while on the MMAHour. “The best way to recover is to get another fight.”
“The Dragon” is hoping for a performance similar to the one he had against the likes of CB Dollaway and Gegard Mousasi when he struck his way to victory. Machida is well aware of Romero’s credentials, but believes he will be able to make it past the powerhouse at UFC Fight Night 70.
“He has a good ground game, he has control on the ground, and also many knockouts,” Machida said. “So, he’s a good fighter, a complete fighter, even though he only has a couple fights in MMA, he knows how to fight at a high level, because he used to compete in the Olympics, the world championships, he knows how to handle that.”
