Matt Brown: I know in my heart, I can be a champion!
UFC welterweight contender Matt Brown suffered a unanimous decision loss to former UFC champion Johny Hendricks at this past weekend’s UFC 185 event in Dallas, Texas.
The loss marked “The Immortal’s” second setback in a row, as he was previously defeated by current UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler at the ‘UFC on FOX 12’ event in July of 2014.
Brown joined The Great MMA Debate podcast to talk about his recent loss and what comes next for the top-five ranked welterweight fighter:
“I lost but I’m not defeated. I’m only disappointed in myself. I know in my heart, with every ounce of energy in me, I can be a champion,” Brown said on Tuesday.
“I just fought the two previous champions and I know where I’m at. I’m honest enough person if that really, truly say if that wasn’t the case. I’d sit here and say ‘I cannot be champion, I’m going to fight for fun because I f—ing just love fighting and I’m going to go out there and swing for the fences and get Fight of the Night and go home’. That’s something I wouldn’t care doing that until I’m 40 years old. But I know I can be champion.”
