Matt Brown vs. Tarec Saffiedine targeted for December event
UFC president Dana White recently told FoxSports.com that welterweights Matt “The Immortal” Brown (18-11 MMA, 11-5 UFC) and Tarec “Sponge” Saffiedine (14-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) are being targeted to fight at a December UFC event.
White said the booking is dependent on Saffiedine’s health, so an exact date has yet to be confirmed.
“The Ultimate Fighter 7” cast member, Matt Brown, has been tearing up his 170-pound competition as of late. Brown is currently riding a six fight win streak, with 5 of those victories coming by form of knockout. Brown most recently disposed of Mike Pyle at UFC Fight Night 26, earning the evenings “Knockout of the night award” in the process. Prior to his fight with Pyle, Brown earned a TKO win over Canadian prospect Jordan Mein in a “Fight of the night” performance at UFC on FOX 7.
Meanwhile, the final Strikeforce welterweight champion, Tarec Saffiedine, is set to make his promotional debut when he takes on Brown. “Sponge” went 6-1 under the Strikeforce banner, earning the promotions 170-pound strap in the process. His latest effort saw him defeat then-champion Nate Marquardt at Strikeforce’s final show in January.
The UFC has events planned for December 14 (UFC on FOX 9), December 21 (a UFC Fight Night event in Australia) and December 28 (UFC 168).
