Melvin Guillard: I would have dropped either Diego Sanchez or Gilbert Melendez at UFC 166

By Chris Taylor - October 24, 2013

This past weekend at UFC 166, fight fans were treated to one of the best lightweight fights of all-time, as Diego Sanchez and Gilbert Melendez went to war inside the octagon.

Sanchez and Melendez received “Fight of the Night” honors for their 3-round bloodbath in Houston and in the minds of many people, should be considered for “Fight of the year.”

However, not everyone felt that way, such as UFC lightweight Melvin Guillard (31-12-2 MMA, 12-8 UFC), who told MMAJunkie.com that he would have dropped both of his fellow 155-pound fighters, much like he used to do to Diego during their training days at Jackson MMA:

“I would have dropped either one of them. I used to drop Diego Sanchez in practice all the time. When I hit people, I hurt people. That’s just what I do.”

Guillard is set to square off with Ross Pearson (15-6 MMA, 7-3 UFC) at this weekend’s “UFC Fight Night 30” event in Manchester, England.

Do you agree with Guillard’s assessment? Would “The Young Assassin” have dropped “El Nino” or “The Dream” once the punches started flying had he been in the octagon? Let’s hear it Penn Nation!
