Coach: Mendes Finishes ‘Court Jester’ McGregor in Round 2

Chad Mendes wasn’t chosen to be Conor McGregor’s opponent at “UFC 189” by chance; UFC brass believes this is the best matchup for the new main-event and think that Mendes has earned another shot at UFC gold.

Mendes’ jiu-jitsu coach Fabio Prado believes the UFC made the right choice and has so much confidence in his student, that he doesn’t think McGregor will know what hit him when all is said and done.

“He will find some holes in the first round. Chad is a scary guy, he has heavy hands, Prado told MMA Fighting. “McGregor will change his mind after Chad lands the first punch. Those who trained and fought him know that. Ricardo Lamas, Clay Guida and others with a good chin went down. Aldo is the only one who didn’t go down, but Aldo is Aldo. This trash talker will feel Chad’s hands and ask himself ‘what the f–k is this? This little guy has got some power’. He hits hard, man.”

Mendes does pack one hell of a punch. Four of his last five victories came by way of knockout. While he had a full training camp to prepare for those fights, Prado believes Mendes will be as ready as ever despite taking the fight on short notice. “It’s on short notice, but his heart and experience will make the difference. Alpha Male doesn’t turn down fights and that’s why we have credit with the UFC. Chad is always training, dreaming about this.”

“We want to win so we can fight Jose Aldo again,” Prado said. “Aldo is Aldo. He’s the number one. We want to be the number one, so we have to get past this. We don’t turn down fights. We don’t care about an interim title. We’re thinking about the court jester.”
