Miesha Tate Eyeing Rematch With Cat Zingano
Miesha Tate is gearing up for her UFC Fight Night 52 bout against undefeated MMA prospect Rin Nakai this Saturday. Tate is looking ahead to a potential rematch with either women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, or Cat Zingano.
Tate lost to ‘Alpha’ Cat Zingano back in April of 2013 in a #1 contender match. As a result Cat Zingano was given a title shot against Ronda Rousey after coaching a season of The Ultimate Fighter against the champ. A knee surgery forced Zingano out of the title shot, and as a result Tate stepped in as the #1 contender. Dana White promised Zingano a title shot upon her return, bringing us to our current situation.
Cat Zingano is now set to return to the Octagon against Amanda Nunes at UFC 178 next month. If Zingano wins the bout against Nunes, she will likely be given a title shot against Rousey. Miesha Tate is hoping if both she and Zingano win their respective bouts they can have a rematch for the title.
Tate spoke to MMAJunkie Radio about the situation:
“Beating her is definitely a step in the right direction for me,” Tate told MMAjunkie Radio. “But I don’t know exactly where that puts me. I hope it means I’m getting closer to a title shot one more time, and if that’s good enough, I’ll take the title shot. If not, I’d like to face Cat Zingano again.”
