‘Mighty Mouse’ Breaks UFC PPV Record –– But Not A Good One

By BJPENN.COM News - September 8, 2015

Going into UFC 191 a lot of talk was on the disappointing numbers that flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson continues to pull in.

The champ’s drawing power always seems to be an issue. Johnson has began saying very publicly that he doesn’t care about that, or what the fans think of him.

Johnson took on John Dodson at last Saturday’s UFC 191, a card that had some really interesting fights and moments on it, but ultimately could be seen as somewhat of a let down. DJ is the champ and he’s dominant, there is no question about that. However, UFC 191 just brought in the lowest PPV numbers for a Las Vegas based UFC event in the last 11 years.

According to Mike Bohn, the event bombed with $1.3 million. Sure that seems like a big number but it’s not in comparison to all the other UFC events put in in Las Vegas.

Here’s the rundown of Johnson’s last four PPV events:

  • Dodson (Las Vegas) – $1.3 million
  • Horiguchi (Montreal) – $668,000
  • Cariaso (Las Vegas) – $2.2 million
  • Bagautinov (Vancouver) – $1.14 million

Do you think the UFC will try to book him in co-main events with bigger fights or will they just keep giving him the spotlight regardless of the bad numbers he’s brining in?
