‘Mighty Mouse’ has a message for his haters: ‘I’m not here for you, I’m here to fight!’
Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson may be one of the most dominant champions the UFC has to offer, but fans just don’t seem to be getting behind him for some reason. The flyweight champion’s pay-per-view numbers have slacked during his last two headlining cards, but he doesn’t care whether or not the fans are tuning in to see him fight.
All “Mighty Mouse” cares about is walking into the octagon and defending his championship.
“One of the things I tell people is that when it comes to fighting and it’s fight week, I’m there for one purpose and that’s the fight and get the hell out of dodge,” Johnson told MMA Mania. “I’m not here for you, I’m here to fight. I’m here to fight for your entertainment, but I’m not here to take you out to lunch and hold your hand. I’ll sign autographs, I don’t mind doing it but I’m not going to be happy because I’m focused on fighting.”
“Mighty Mouse” is tired of the criticism he is gaining for being a “boring” character; The champion is on a nine fight win streak and has no patience for fans who tell him how to do his job.
“A lot of people might see that as boring or I’m not a character, but when you’re at work … let me come to your ******* job and go, ‘hey, hey buddy. How’re you doing? Can you sign this for me?’ I’m like dude, ‘you’re ******* breaking my concentration.’ That’s how I see things.”
Luckily, Johnson didn’t listen to the fans or their criticisms when walking into the octagon at “UFC 191” when he put on a clinic against John Dodson. It was Johnson’s second and final time defending his championship against Dodson, as “The Magician” chose to move up in weight after the loss.
