“Overeem Only Calls Me Out When I’m Injured!”
Alistair Overeem has been on tap to fight Junior dos Santos twice in his career, but the fight fell through both times. Now, Overeem is back to calling Dos Santos out and “Cigano” is amused by it, to say the least.
“I have to smile because this guy… He knows I’m hurt and that’s why he’s saying these things. I’m injured and I can’t fight right now and that’s why he’s saying this kind of things,” JDS told MMAFighting. “I really think he wants to promote himself. I wanna see him saying these things when I’m 100 percent again. I think he’s going to be quiet again.”
Despite calling out “The Reem’s” bluff, Junior dos Santos wants it to be known that he is willing to fight Overeem is that’s what matchmakers want. “But of course, I don’t pick opponents. If the UFC wants me to fight him, I will fight him and I will be glad to face him.”
In a recent interview, Overeem stated that he thought Dos Santos was the gatekeeper of the heavyweight division. Dos Santos chose not to take the trash talk seriously and dealt out a diss of his own. “I think he did well, he did a good job. He’s a good athlete, he’s a good fighter, but, for sure, he’s a better talker than a fighter.”
