Overeem On Injuring Jones “I Felt Terrible”
Alistair Overeem has been on the receiving end of some harsh criticism lately after it was revealed that he injured Jon Jones while Jones was preparing for his UFC 178 fight against Daniel Cormier.
The two men were sparring, and Jones ended up getting injured and tearing his meniscus. Anthony Johnson was the first fighter to speak out about how Overeem goes too hard in training. Then UFC President Dana White said that Overeem had no business training with Jones because Jones was fighting Cormier, a short wrestler, and Overeem is a tall kickboxer.
Overeem joined Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour to discuss the incident, saying that there “Never has been” any bad blood between him and Bones.
“And I felt terrible man, because I was looking forward to that fight. Of course obviously [Jones]’s had a great career, he’s a great athlete, but I also like him as a friend. So, you never want to do that to your buddies that are your teammates, because you feel terrible.”
