Pettis Fires Off At Thomson: “I don’t even know how he got the title shot”

By BJPENN.COM News - January 10, 2014

Just one fight into his latest UFC stint and former Strikeforce lightweight champion, Josh Thomson, was poised to square off for the UFC title opposite Anthony Pettis.

After an unfortunate injury, Pettis was forced out of their scheduled December showdown and Thomson, has now gone on to headline UFC on FOX 10 opposite, Benson Henderson.

For his part, Thomson, was filling in as a replacement against Pettis for the injured, T.J. Grant, but when Pettis pulled out of their fight, Thomson said he knew it all along.

Taking to FOX Sports, the champ, Anthony Pettis, fired one back towards Thomson, questioning his legitimacy as the UFC’s true number one contender.

“He’s gonna talk, whatever,” Pettis told FOX Sports. “I don’t even know how he got the title shot to begin with.”

Anthony Pettis recently underwent surgery for a torn PCL and is expected to return to action later this year.
