Report: St. Pierre Injured Before UFC 158, Set for Six Month Layoff | UFC NEWS
With another Georges St. Pierre near perfection win in the books at UFC 158, the Canadian champion has released information of an achilles tendon injury. He said the injury struck prior to his recent bout with Nick Diaz, when he tweaked his achilles in training. In addition to this now reported injury, GSP also had claimed to be sick going into the fight.
The champion’s head trainer, Firas Zahabi details his issues via google translate (From MMAMania.com):
“Fortunately, there were no tears. That said, it was very tense and very painful, but not enough to cancel the fight. Our concern was that the tendon tears during combat. For the moment, we do not know if he aggravated his injury, but it certainly will undergo treatment in the coming weeks for the tendon can heal properly.”
After coming off of a long layoff from his knee surgery, St. Pierre was able to return victoriously against Carlos Condit. After his next six month rest and rehabilitation period, St. Pierre is tentatively set to face Johny Hendricks in his next title defense.
Perhaps “Rush” is slowly losing his superhuman abilities and may not forever be the perfect fighting machine.
