Ronda Rousey Reportedly Signs With UFC | MMA News

By bjpenndotcom - November 8, 2012

Per TMZ.com, Ronda Rousey has apparently become the first ever woman to sign a contract with the UFC which would make her the first ever woman and the first Women’s champion in the organization as well.

The Celebrity News site, TMZ.com broke the story today as sources to the site have told them that she has signed a contract with the UFC and that prospective opponents are already being drawn upon to welcome the woman’s MMA phenom into the largest MMA organization in the world in a fight that will be the biggest of Rousey’s, and her eventual opponent’s, career.

Her first fight will be historic and the event will be nothing short of spectacular as she makes the biggest leap in woman’s MMA, not to discount WMMA pioneers such as Gina Carano, or even Rousey’s current nemesis, Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos. This is simply the highest a fighter can go, and with the backing of the UFC, Rousey will become a legend of WMMA, without question.

Rousey has been an MMA icon for the past years, rocketing into the forefront of the fighting world with her famous (or infamous for her opponents) string of first-round armbar wins and her magnetic personality. Also, Rousey has long had a strong friendship with UFC president Dana White who saw what WMMA could accomplish with Rousey at the forefront. Now it appears the two have teamed up to bring the long awaited legitimacy to WMMA.

This is all speculation as of now, although reliable sources have confirmed the news to TMZ.com.

Also, the site states that the recently announced January 12th Strikeforce card will be the last for the organization before being dissolved in to the UFC. THe last card features three title fights as well as the return of Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Champion, Daniel Cormier.

This news almost comes as no surprise as Strikeforce has seen a massive migration of top stars to the UFC and has only held five events in the year 2012 while canceling several more.

If these rumors are true, then we can look forward to the UFC owning no less than 80% of the premier talent in the world of MMA and that is being very conservative. A monopoly is a better word but for this sport, a monopoly is exactly what it needs to make sure the best fighters in the world fight each other to prove to the fans and themselves alike, who is among the best fighters on the planet.

And now, with a women’s division headed by Rousey, we can also see the best that WMMA has to offer in an extremely underrated portion of MMA.
