Rumor: Frankie Edgar vs. Urijah Faber Superfight Set For May 16 in Manila
Rumors are swirling that a superfight between former MMA champions Frankie Edgar and Urijah Faber is set for May’s UFC debut event in Manila, Philippines.
The match has been confirmed by multiple sources close to the event, and an official announcement is expected to be made shortly by the UFC.
Former UFC lightweight champion and current #1 ranked featherweight contender, Frankie Edgar, has won three fights in a row. Frankie’s most recent victory came this past November in Texas, where he submitted Cub Swanson in the main event of UFC Fight Night 57. Prior to that, Edgar defeated MMA legend BJ Penn via third-round TKO at July’s TUF 19 Finale event in Las Vegas.
Meanwhile, “The California Kid” is currently riding a two-fight win streak. Faber was last seen in action at December’s UFC 181 event, where he earned a submission victory over Francisco Rivera. Since joining the UFC ranks in March of 2011, Faber has compiled a 8-3 record with his only losses coming to champions Renan Barao and Dominick Cruz.
A weight class for this potential superfight has yet to be announced.
The ‘UFC Fight Night Manila’ event is set for May 16, 2015.
