RUMOR: Rousey vs. Zingano Being Targeted For UFC 182
Following her dominant 3rd round TKO win over Amanda Nunes this past Saturday at UFC 178, an emotional Cat Zingano spoke to Joe Rogan in her Octagon interview, and said that she was ready to fight Ronda Rousey for the bantamweight title, something she earned before her 17-month layoff from competition.
UFC President Dana White had the following to say about Zingano’s performance at the post-fight press conference:
“I think that’s the statement she wanted to make, and she made it loud and clear. She’s been away for awhile; she had some injuries; she’s dealing with some personal problems. She is back. I think the fans can see her, and she needed to remind everybody why she was in line for a title fight. She did it tonight.”
Dana White also added that the plan is to have the pair square off in January, however he didn’t give a possible card for the bout.
Since then, rumors have been circling that the UFC is targeting UFC 182 for the bout according to Sherdog. So far the only announced bout for UFC 182, which takes place on January 3rd is Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier.
Another possible card the UFC may slate Rousey vs. Zingano on is UFC 183, which is headlined by Anderson Silva vs. Nick Diaz. That event will take place on January 31st, and has yet to have any other announced bouts as well.
Both UFC 182, and UFC 183, take place in Las Vegas.
