Ryan Bader eyeing title shot or rematch with Glover Teixeira after 5 straight wins

By BJPENN.COM News - October 4, 2015

Ryan “Darth” Bader has his eye on the prize after defeating former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans in decisive fashion at “UFC 192”. While Bader gathered a twelve fight win streak before suffering his first loss to Jon Jones at UFC 126, the five fight win streak he is riding right now may be more impressive and could catapult him into a math with Daniel Cormier before “Bones” returns to the octagon.

Bader is realistic, though, and has been overlooked before for a shot at the championship. Many expected Bader to be in Alexander Gustafsson’s spot for the most recent light heavyweight title fight, but “The Mauler” assumed the position when UFC President Dana White broke the news.

“Obviously, I want a title shot,” Bader said during the post fight press conference. “We’ve got Jon Jones back in the picture, so I’m going to control the things that I can control and that’s the fight in front of me; that’s Rashad. We’ll see what happens… I’m here to fight. If Jon Jones comes back and he’s fighting Cormier, I have some people on my mind that I’d like to fight. I’d like to get my last loss back with Glover, so that’s one fight I’d like to get back.”

Bader’s last loss came at the hands of Glover Teixeira in September 2013. Bader was knocked out in less than three minutes and has been on a tear ever since, dominating the likes of Ovince St-Preux and Phil Davis.

“Obviously I’d like a title shot and a fight with Cormier,” Bader said. “We’ll see what happens with the Jon Jones situation.”
