Swanson: ‘I just know I’m rising to the occasion’
UFC featherweight contender Cub Swanson (20-5 MMA, 5-1 UFC) is looking to make a statement when he faces Jeremy Stephens in the main event of “UFC Fight Night 44” this Saturday night in San Antonio.
The former WEC title challenger is currently riding a five-fight win streak, which includes octagon wins over George Roop, Ross Pearson, Charles Oliveira, Dustin Poirier and most recently Dennis Siver.
Swanson believes that this is the most complete he’s ever been for a fight, as he recently told the hosts of UFC Tonight:
“I honestly say that this is the most complete I’ve ever been for a fight,” Swanson told Florian and Sonnen on UFC Tonight. “My wrestling is on point. My Jiu-jitsu game is on point. My stand up is sharp as always. I just know I’m rising to the occasion.”
Swanson knows that his opponent “Lil Heathen” has solid knockout power, but believes that it will be his accuracy and pace that makes the difference in their fight:
“He has knocked some people out cold. I’ve always said ‘maybe I don’t hit that hard’ but I’m pretty accurate, keep a gnarly pace, and it doesn’t matter how I’m getting the W’s but I’m getting them.”
When asked why he deserves a title shot with a win over Stephens, Cub responded with the following statement:
“It would be six wins in a row for me. I’m hungry. Eleven years in the making. It’s my time.”
