Swanson to Aldo: “Man up and move up, or stay here and let’s fight”

Since losing to Ricardo Lamas in his UFC debut back in November of 2011, Cub Swanson (20-5 MMA, 5-1 UFC) has since put together a five-fight win streak that has him sitting in prime spot for a shot at featherweight gold.

Cub recently sat down with Steph Daniels of BloodyElbow.com where he shared his opinion of what long time UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo should do next:

“If I was him, I’d just go. We’re all guys that want to challenge ourselves and be the best in the world. That’s why people love Randy Couture and B.J. Penn; they sought challenges in different weight classes to be the best in the world. Dominating one weight class makes you a badass in the sport, but if you want to be a legend, you have to go to different weight classes and be dominant there, too. I’d heard he (Aldo) doesn’t want to lose his belt, and that’s why they’re saying catchweight and looking for loopholes so he can take the fight and keep his belt, too. I think that’s bull because that situation would hold us all up. If that’s the fight you want, man up and move up. If it’s not, then stay here and let’s fight.”

Obviously Cub is not fond of the idea of Jose Aldo fighting UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis in a catchweight bout, as it would hold up the rest of the featherweight divisions current contenders.

That said, Pettis’ camp has already stated that if Aldo wants to fight “Showtime,” it will have to be at 155-pounds.

For now, all we can do is wait for “Scarface” and his camp to make their decision on what his next career move will entail.
