TJ Dillashaw Eyeing Dominick Cruz for Next Fight
After such a decisive finish of Renan Barao at ‘UFC on FOX 16’, UFC Bantamweight Champion TJ Dillashaw is eyeing Dominick Cruz as his next challenger.
Dominick Cruz made a triumphant return to the octagon at UFC 178 in 2014 after being forced to sit on the sidelines for three years due to an ACL injury. Dana White announced at the post fight press conference that the performance had warranted an opportunity at TJ Dillashaw’s championship, but Cruz was forced to pull out of the bout due to another ACL injury.
It seems their paths may cross again if Cruz can get healthy in time.
“That’s the biggest fight,” Dillashaw said of a fight with Cruz during the post fight press conference. “That’s what’s going to make my name the biggest at this weight class, fighting Cruz as soon as he’s able to come back.”
“He’s a very elusive, high-paced fighter as well,” Dillashaw said. “I just don’t think he has the power behind his punches. You know, I don’t think he has the devastating threat that he can impose on someone. I see myself definitely winning that fight.”
While a fight with Cruz is a big money fight, Dillashaw also admitted Raphael Assuncao has earned a shot at the title as well.
“I mean, it’s so hard for me to think about anyone else. I’ve been thinking about Renan Barao for over a year and a half,” Dillashaw said during the UFC on FOX 16 post fight press conference. “But we’ve got guys like Dominick Cruz and Raphael Assuncao. They’re both great fighters but they’re hurt now. Whenever they come back, I don’t know what the plan is, but I’d like to see either one of those guys. I don’t know. I’m not sure.”
