Tony Ferguson Sees Lack Of Clothes As Proof Of Hard Work

Tony ‘El Cucuy’ Ferguson measures how hard he’s working by how few clean clothes he has around his house.

He explained the measurement system to MMAJunkie:

“When I stopped worrying about what everybody else was doing in their camps or whatever the fans were going to say or comments on YouTube, the only thing that mattered was the hours I was putting in the gym and the sweat and the amount of T-shirts I had to wash the next day. I’m like, ‘Dude, how do I not have any more clothes after six years of adding all this stuff?’ But that’s how hard I’m working out, and that’s how much I’m performing inside there.”

Ferguson is coming off a split decision win over Danny Castillo at UFC 177. The win extended the former TUF winner’s win streak to 3, building on his wins over Mike Rio and Katsunori Kikuno. Those wins come after Ferguson moved to Los Angeles for a change in his training.

“This is a stepping process, so I’m not in one huge rush to get to the top. My skills are stepping up, and my performances inside the cage are going up. (I’m) taking chances. Going on my back (in my last fight), people are looking at me like, ‘What are you doing?’ But this is the stuff that I do inside the cage when I’m practicing.

“I’m pulling that trigger in that cage, so that way when I get inside the cage for the pay-per-view, I’m showing all my skills. It’s not a problem any more.”
