UFC 172 Results: Johnson Dominates in UFC Return, Beats Davis After 3 Full Rounds

By bjpenndotcom - April 26, 2014

Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson claimed the middle of the octagon in the first and dictated where the entire fight went. Whenever Davis would feign a takedown attempt, Johnson would counter him with an uppercut and it almost ended the fight a few times.

A right hook from ‘Rumble’ busted open the eye of Davis and it almost led to a finish. Davis shot for a takedown to buy recovery time but it was stuffed which led to Johnson blasting Davis while he was turtled up. Davis may have been able to escape the first round, but things did not improve for him in rounds two or three; this fight was essentially Anthony Johnson showcasing his potential at light heavyweight.

Anthony Johnson landed punches at will and showed great takedown defense, stuffing all nine of Mr. Wonderful’s attempts throughout the fight. Now that he is fighting closer to his natural weight, Johnson’s gas tank has improved greatly and he was not breathing heavily at any point of the fight. Things are looking bright for the future of ‘Rumble’.
