UFC 173 Results: Cormier Chokes Henderson Out In Round 3, Calls Out Jon Jones After Win

By bjpenndotcom - May 24, 2014

Daniel Cormier put on a masterful performance against Dan Henderson and made a good case for being the next challenger to Jon Jones’ UFC Light Heavyweight Title.

It wasn’t even a minute before Daniel Cormier slammed Dan Henderson to the ground after executing a beautiful hip toss. Cormier landed right in side control and it looked like it was only a matter of time before he got full mount. Henderson impressed off his back, however, and he managed to transition back to half-guard. An errant maneuver from Cormier let Henderson get back to his feet where the round ended. Henderson seemed tired after the horn sounded while Cormier looked fresh.

Forty seconds passed in the second round until the fight made it back to the ground. Cormier had taken Henderson down with ease and spent a lot of time picking his shots, trying to tire Henderson out more than anything. The remainder of the round was spent on the ground and when Henderson got back to his corner, he was sporting a cut and gasping for air.

Daniel Cormier put a stamp on his performance forty-five seconds into the third round when he lifted Dan Henderson up above his head and slammed him down onto the mat. It resembled a slam you would see a wrestler do when they were jacked up on steroids in the 1990s! It looked as if the fight was going to go to decision, but Henderson walked right into a rear naked choke. Daniel Cormier cranked on the hold so hard, Henderson passed out within seconds and the referee waved it off.
