UFC 181 Results: Browne Flattens and TKOs Schaub in First Round
Another knockout!
The majority of the fight saw Brendan Schaub and Travis Browne fight for positioning. Browne clearly wanted to keep the fight standing which is geared toward his knockout power whereas Schaub wanted to tie things up and drain the gas tank of his opponent. Schaub was having issues getting inside a comfortable striking distance of Browne and often wildly threw strikes just to get within clinch range.
Schaub recklessly shot in but Browne cut him off with an uppercut that wobbled him and he went tumbling to the mat. Browne threw his arms to the side and transitioned to side control where he proceeded to pummel Schaub with ground and pound. Schaub turned around and gave up his back and Browne flattened him out with a full back mount. Browne teed off on Schaub who was simply turtled up. Mario Yamasaki was forced to call off the fight as Schaub was not improving his positioning.
Schaub tried to complain the fight was stopped prematurely, but he was in no way improving his positioning and you could barely make an argument his defense was “intelligent”. This was a big comeback for Travis Browne who recently suffered a big loss against current interim heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum.
