UFC 181 Results: Pennington Puts Smith to Sleep with a Bulldog Choke

Raquel Pennington pulls off the last-second win!

The majority of the first round took place in the clinch and both women were cut open by sharp strikes. As scrappy as the fight was at the start, it got even more interesting in the last second of the round.

Pennington was able to grab hold of Smith’s neck with six seconds remaining in the round. She cranked the bulldog choke with all her might and you could see Smith struggling and gasping for air. Smith slowly fell to her knees and was eventually flattened out by either passing out or Pennington’s body weight pushing her down. After the time expired, Fox Sports 1 quickly cut to commercial.

When the broadcast returned, it was announced that Smith had passed out from the bulldog choke and Pennington won the bout! Pennington credited her training for the victory, claiming she “was a beast all throughout training camp with that choke”.
