UFC Champ Weidman: ‘The Rockhold Fight May Not Happen’
UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman was said to be fighting Luke Rockhold next, in fact it seemed like a sure thing that was announced and everything.
Now, according to Weidman himself, that fight might not be happening. He told MMAMania that he heard there were talks of a number one contender fight going around.
“I don’t know when I’m fighting next. There are rumors that he [Rockhold] might be fighting for a number one contendership against Jacare [Souza] next.”
Do you think that fight would make the most sense, or should one of those two fighters just get the title shot?
‘Jacare’ has been pushing for the fight, even after Rockhold was announced as the next challenger. Maybe the UFC is having second thoughts, or maybe they were hoping for Weidman vs. Rockhold to take place in New York, and now that that’s not happening they’ve scrapped the fight. Who knows, it’s the UFC.
