UFC champion on Ronda Rousey: ‘she’s still one of the greatest’
Many were quick to run over Ronda Rousey while she was down after her knockout loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193. Rousey tasted defeat for the first time in her professional mixed martial arts career and many gave the former champion a heavy amount of flack with the loss.
UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk recently spoke with Sherdog and talked about how people should not forget what one of the most popular fighters in the UFC did for the sport (transcribed by Bloody Elbow):
“We’re all doing this job together,” Jedrzejczyk said. “We cannot forget what Ronda did before, for all of us, not just for female fighters, but for all the UFC and MMA all over the world. People cannot look at this just because she lost her last fight, you know? Like I said, she used to be, she used to fight for national U.S. team in Judo. She’s been to the Olympics, she won a medal there. She was a champion so she’s still one of the greatest so people cannot forget about her, you know?”
Rousey is still recovering from her loss and taking time off from fighting to film movies and expand on her acting career. Reports speculate that Rousey may rematch Holm in July at UFC 200, but no official announcement has been made by the UFC yet.
