UFC Fight Night 38 Results: Maldonado Earns Decision Win Over Villante

Glan Villante controlled the fight in the first round by making sure Fabio Maldonado had no room to work for any offense, but he was far from dominant in the performance. If anything, it seemed like he may have gassed himself out in the first by trying to keep his opponent on the ground.

Fabio Maldonado put on a brilliant performance in the second round. He started to pick apart Villante with combinations and changed levels constantly, which kept Villante guessing. Maldonado was busted open and bloodied but it was clear to the crowd and whoever else was watching he started to take control of the fight in round two.

Villante’s hands were low the entire third round and he showed little head movement. Maldonado’s shots were not fight-threatening at all, but his combinations landed repeatedly and brought the crowd to their feet. The only variable that threatened putting a stop to the fight was Villante’s fatigue taking over, forcing the big man to topple to the ground after a few unanswered strikes. Fortunately for him, he was able to reach the final horn and see the judges’ decision.
