UFC on FOX 12 Results: Ortega Makes Quick Work of De La Torre, Picks Up 1st Round Submission

Brian Ortega displayed some elite BJJ skills in his quick finish against Michael de la Torre.

Ortega grabbed the body of De La Torre and tried to take him down by pushing him against the fence. De La Torre defended the takedown by bending down, and Ortega saw this as a chance to take his back. Ortega jumped on the back of De La Torre and applied the body-triangle— you could tell this was the beginning of the end.

Ortega worked for the rear naked choke and De La Torre had nowhere to go as he was carrying the bodyweight of Ortega. Standing, De La Torre’s options were to fall backwards which would help Ortega sink the hold in further or just hope Ortega was going to give up on the hold and let go. De La Torre never thought about “Option C”, which eventually happened.

“Option C” was Ortega being successful with the choke and forcing De La Torre to submit seconds before he passed out. Ortega credited the submission victory to Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and looked excited to be on television next to Joe Rogan.
