If victorious against Siver, McGregor gets next crack at Aldo

Sorry Frankie Edgar, but if Connor McGregor proves victorious in his main event fight against Dennis Siver at “UFC Fight Night 59”, the brash Irishman will receive the next shot at Jose Aldo’s UFC featherweight gold.

That’s how UFC President Dana White summed up the promotions current featherweight title picture earlier today:

“This fight in Boston, if he wins, he’s going to fight for the title,” White said.

The decision will likely rub some fighters the wrong way, but it will also likely “move needles” which we all know the UFC is very fond of.

McGregor is coming off a first-round knockout victory over top-10 ranked featherweight fighter Dustin Poirier at September’s UFC 178 event.

“Notorious” now faces unranked Dennis Siver in a bout that will decide who gets the next crack at Jose Aldo’s 145-pound strap.

It does seem a little unfair for former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar, who just defeated the divisions top contender Cub Swanson in a lop-sided victory.

But, business is business and a fight between McGregor and Aldo will surely do big numbers.
