Vitor Belfort’s momentum from his championship run was cut short when he was forced to sit out his first opportunity at Chris Weidman’s championship belt due to the ban of TRT use. This past Saturday night at “UFC 187″, his dreams of winning the gold faded when the referee waved off the fight in the first round.

At the UFC 187 Post Fight Press Conference, Belfort was asked what was next for him and if retirement was an option. “I think next is [I need to] just reset… we need to reset,” Belfort said. “It was a very tough night for me. I didn’t expect it to go the way it [did].”

Belfort landed a few good shots in the opening minute of the fight but as soon as Weidman took the fight to the ground, it was game over for Belfort. Belfort offered very little on the ground except for an occasional strike from the bottom which didn’t do any damage.

“I saw my finish, but he’s the champion,” Belfort said. “He took it. It was a bad night. He was the better man tonight.”
