Werdum Says Velasquez Rematch ‘Will Happen in Brazilian Soccer Stadium’
From the sound of things, it looks like the rematch between UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum and former champ Cain Velasquez will likely take place in Brazil, at a soccer stadium.
That’s according to the champ himself, who told MMAFighting that it’s not official yet, but the fight will take place in March and will probably happen in Brazil.
Werdum was pulling for the fight to take place at the 60,000-seat Arena do Gremio soccer stadium in Porto Alegre, but because it doesn’t have a roof, he says it is more likely to happen at a soccer stadium in Curitiba.
The champ also said that he feels like it should happen in Brazil since he’s traveled to Mexico to fight Velasquez twice.
Check it out!
“It’s not 100 percent yet, but the fight will happen in March. I wanted it to take place in Porto Alegre, but Gremio’s soccer stadium doesn’t have a roof. There’s a soccer stadium in Curitiba with a retractable roof, so it’s probably going to be there. This fight will happen in a soccer stadium because a lot of people are waiting for this.”
I’m trying hard to take this fight to Brazil. I’ve fought at his home twice. He wasn’t there to fight the first time, and I fought him the second time. It’s my turn now.”
