White: “Cyborg” was offered a fight at 135 in December, but not against Rousey
Recent details were revealed behind Tito Ortiz’s claim that Cris “Cyborg” was offered a fight with Ronda Rousey in Dallas on December 5th that made everything a little more clear.
While it was true that “Cyborg” received a call to fight in December at 135, it was NOT for a fight against the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion. “She was never offered a fight with Ronda anywhere,” Dana White explained to UFC.COM. She has to make the weight, and then fight, and then we know she can do it and we do the fight with Ronda.”
White went on to reiterate that the phone call was to offer “Cyborg” a fight at 135 while seeing where she was with her thought process on making the transition to the octagon. “The deal we have with her is that she’ll make the weight and fight at 135,” White said. “We said to her: ‘What’s going on? Are we going to do this?’
White was shocked that “Cyborg” was nowhere to be seen at UFC 190 after Rousey successfully defended her title against Bethe Correia. “I thought it was weird that she wasn’t screaming for this fight— that she wasn’t trying to make the weight and trying to make this fight happen.”
Do you think “Cyborg” will make her transition to the UFC, or will she remain queen of Invicta’s featherweight division until she retires?
