White says Edgar will step in at UFC 194 if McGregor or Aldo get injured

By BJPENN.COM News - September 13, 2015

Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor are set to finally square off in the octagon at “UFC 194” in December to settle who is the true UFC Featherweight Champion. The two were originally supposed to meet at “UFC 189”, but Aldo suffered a rib injury causing him to pull out of the fight.

Instead, McGregor fought Chad Mendes on short notice for the newly created UFC Interim Featherweight Championship. Mendes tested McGregor, but it was McGregor who would force “Money” succumb to strikes in the second round to become the new king of the division.

Now, Aldo is back in top-form and is ready to lay controversy to rest. However, knowing fans can’t have nice things in the world of mixed martial arts, UFC President Dana White is prepared for Plan-B if either of the champions get injured.

“If someone gets hurt I’m the guy stepping in,” Frankie Edgar said during the “Go Big” press conference. “And that’s from Dana White. You can print that in bold letters!”

Edgar expressed his interest in jumping into the championship fight, but admits he is not overlooking the challenger in front of him in Chad Mendes.

“I put all of my opponents on a pedestal,” Edgar said. “Anything can happen, and there are so many unknowns in this sport, so I’m always thinking they’re having a great camp, they’re learning new things and they’re going to come in in tip-top shape, and that always keeps me motivated.”

Edgar and Mendes meet at “The Ultimate Fighter: Team McGregor vs. Team Faber Finale” on December 11, 2015. The fight will likely decide the top contender to the UFC Featherweight Championship barring any controversial finishes. Who do you think will walk out on top?
