On this day in MMA history, Chris Weidman shocked the world as he knocked out Anderson Silva to claim the UFC middleweight championship in the main event of UFC 162.
Going into the fight, Weidman was just 9-0 in his professional MMA career, going 5-0 in the UFC before ultimately earning himself a shot against Anderson Silva, who had been reigning over the UFC’s middleweight division for many years. When the pair stepped into the Octagon together at UFC 162, no one could have anticipated how the evening would unfold.
Just minutes into the second round, Weidman caught Silva with a big hook that sent the middleweight champion to the canvas, forcing referee Herb Dean to stop the fight.
On this day in MMA history, Chris Weidman did what no one believed he could do, and knocked out Anderson Silva.
