Valerie Loureda retires from MMA, signs with WWE

Bellator MMA prospect Valerie Loureda has decided to hang up the gloves. The 23-year-old has been a star for the Showtime-based company since her 2019 debut. In the Bellator cage, she’s scored four victories in five fights. Her most recent outing came at Bellator 271 in November 2021, where she defeated Taylor Turner via split decision.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez admits there was “friction” with former UFC rival Brock Lesnar during his WWE stint. Velasquez and Lesnar met at UFC 121 in October 2010. In what was an upset at the time, it was Velasquez who knocked out Lesnar in the first round to become the new UFC heavyweight champion. The two would never end up rematching in the Octagon, but after both men retired from MMA and went to WWE, the two rivals met in a professional wrestling match at WWE Crown Jewel in October 2019. Lesnar would win that match.

Lesnar made his return to professional wrestling on Saturday night when he made his comeback at WWE Summerslam. The return was a big surprise for fans, but also a pleasant surprise as Lesnar is one of the biggest superstars in the professional wrestling world, not to mention a former UFC world champion, to boot. On Saturday night at Summerslam, Lesnar returned to the WWE ring and, after the show went off the air, he went on to slam Cena into oblivion in a move that only the fans who were sitting there ringside got to see. Lashley, who is 44 years old, is one of the best wrestlers in the world of WWE right now, but he’s also an accomplished MMA fighter, having racked up a 15-2 overall record in mixed martial arts. Lashley has actually won his last eight fights in a row, including five stoppage wins in Bellator, though he hasn’t stepped into the MMA cage since 2016.

However, McGregor has stayed busy in the world of combat sports with mixed martial arts and boxing, so he hasn’t had the opportunity to go to the WWE. But a move has long been rumored for McGregor to go the WWE route, particularly once he is done with his MMA career, just as Ronda Rousey did.

Cormier officially announced his retirement from mixed martial arts last month after failing to win back the UFC Heavyweight Championship in his trilogy fight with Stipe Miocic. Before that, however, fans had always known that there was a possibility “DC” would make the jump over to professional wrestling in some capacity once he hung up his gloves.
